Leadership can be weird about that stuff, my last deployment we had the option to wear an Africom deployment patch, which a lot of guys did, leadership tried to force the wear of the 101st patch but couldn’t make it stick and gave up.

82nd Airborne in 2014. I was finally getting promoted after my leadership had refused to send me to the board while we were deployed unless I reenlisted. I was in the awkward time where I could still lose my P status so I sure as hell heeded the CSM’s guidance.

I knew the Army put too much value on pieces of flare when I got bitched at by a random SGM for having my Airborne wings sewn on over my Air Assault wings while I was in the 101st.

The fact the Army decided to make the MIB makes my eyes roll into the back of my head.

My hot take is that I think Ranger school has its utility and being tabbed is something to be proud of but due to institutional dogma its turned into an artificial choke point and a resource suck for Infantry professional development.

I think this is part of a larger tendency to think that our current problems are new and unique rather than the culmination of decades of unaddressed structural issues that are coming to a head now.

That there’s a toxin that’s been introduced to the system rather than issues that are baked in.

I really hate the conspiracy theory going around that ICE/CBP has recently contracted out or hired a bunch of patriot front, militia, proud boys etc.

Those organizations aren’t newly full of bad apples, they’ve been toxic and full of some of the worst people in federal law enforcement for a while.
