I mean, in a country that prides itself on producing "leaders" and buying all their books and holding them up as avatars of all that is good, the two principal leadership habits we're currently seeing are 1. laying down like a coward at the first sign of trouble, or 2., going full fascist.

Sadly, this will only encourage the Trump admin.

Fair enough

Okay, so wouldn’t your wife and her colleagues just vote no to unionize locally, if that’s what they want? Teamsters can’t force a location to unionize, so I’m a bit confused. If your wife is happy but other locations aren’t and thus choose to unionize and strike, what is the concern?

I agree w your assessment on Teamsters leadership, but you don’t have to look far to find Teamsters that have vocally decried his actions. He is one person and each unique union speaks for their own union. Assuming a conspiracy is a bit of a stretch, given the number of people involved in a strike.

Sure, but the president is one person and it’s not unheard us for leadership to be out of line w union membership. To strike, you have to have a super majority, and there are really too many Teamsters and too many members of one unique union w/in Teamsters to assume they all have the same beliefs

Can you provide a source? There are many aspects of working conditions and salary is only one of them. Unions can strike for any reason as long as it falls under agreed negotiable conditions and a super majority of the members vote yes.

The existence of a union only implies that a super majority of workers has decided to work in solidarity instead of on their own to improve their conditions. If people don’t want to be in a union, you vote against it or don’t join it. It says nothing about management; that is your own bias.

Is there a reason all of Costco shouldn’t unionize?
January 25, 2025 at 12:57 AM
Yes, but the Costo union also voted to authorize a strike, so there are multiple layers to consider
