Treasury officials said today that last week they “mistakenly” and “briefly” gave a member of Elon Musk’s team the power to alter a sensitive federal payments database. This undercuts the repeated public claims that DOGE access to the federal payments system was limited to a “read-only” basis.
NEW: Treasury is doing a “forensic” investigation into how DOGE/Musk ally Marko Elez was “mistakenly” given access to alter aspects the government’s massive spending database.

The probe is ongoing.

Some higher ed organizations who are loudly circling the wagons against federal funding cuts were oddly silent or circumspect about the earlier attacks on CRT and DEI.

I wish there was a better understanding that these attacks are coming because we failed to repel those.
