Well well well. I did not expect this.
New passenger train named 'The Mainlander' to link Christchurch, Dunedin and Invercargill in NZ'.
Very experimental just yet, limited travel dates and priced as an 'experience' rather than transport.
But, better than a poke in the eye with a burnt stick.

Well well well. I did not expect this.

i love these rapido trains, trenton works 6637 cubic foot, 60 foot combo door, bc rail box cars. especially the rapido trains paint scheme and the railroad of lies paint scheme. i only wish they made them in n scale.

i want one of these but alas they’re not shipping outside of canada
a lot of people rubbish these (and they are right to – they are usually terrible) BUT its 30°C and 25% relative humidity, and its actually doing a good job (and i bought it for like $20 a few years ago for just these occasions, i would never spend more than that on an evaporative cooler)

if we can get victoria to convert all its broad gauge lines to standard gauge, we can then declare that new south wales has won

when i go to nz to ride the crl when it opens, i might pair it with a trip to wellington on the northern explorer
#CRLNews: Over the 22 & 23rd of November City Rail Link completed further high frequency testing through the CRL tunnels, during this testing train managers were onboard to simulate the opening and closing of doors during standard operations once CRL opens.

i have to say, even the dysfunction of sydney public transport in the 1990s/2000s was still probably 10x better than toronto transit now

i have to say, the uk has some really absurd setups, possibly as a result of its 80s/90s neoliberalism phase – like post offices that are a completely separate organisation to the royal
mail (and not the public facing part of its postal service organisation like everywhere else)

it’d cost the government a lot of money to put on extra trains to soak up all that demand. if only there was a way for riders to contribute to the cost.
We all like freebies, but with little or no extra capacity expected to be added to V/Line trains over summer, services are likely to be packed.
V/Line travel is free on weekends this summer in Victoria but will you find a seat?
Victorians will benefit from free public transport on weekends this summer, but not all travellers are excited for the freebie.
