So as a VERY crude "star" measure, I've just taken the players with the top 64 AAV for each of the past four seasons (no need to point out to me the limitations of that) and looked at the injury rates for those players.

Not suggesting this is a deep dive but you could divide the Leafs' season into three parts from an injury perspective (most recent game not in chart):

7 pretty healthy games to start (3-3-1 record)

10 mostly without Tanev but nothing too bad (5-5-0)

5 since with more significant absences (1-2-2)
November 24, 2025 at 6:43 PM
This will be the 23rd different absence to injury/illness in Černák's NHL career (the first 21 going into this season shown here), but none of the others has been for longer than 10 games and - as is customary - the Lightning haven't said anything much about any of them

NHL injury frequency through each team's first 19 games (and projected to 23 games) compared to the previous 24 seasons

A sensible linear extrapolation would indicate that we'll have over 200 players out by the end of the season

"All inclusive" MGL table through 20 November, i.e. counting anyone under contract on LTIR, SOIR etc.

This week's housekeeping is to move Rutger McGroarty out of the Penguins' core numbers as he was sent down when healthy (even if a circumstance of timing).

NHL injury heat map through 20 November

A recent trickle of healthy games amongst the general carnage. The Red Wings' current AAV missing compared to the rest of the Atlantic is pretty funny.

Hellebuyck has seemingly only missed one game to injury in his career up to now (plus a smattering due to illness)
November 21, 2025 at 5:48 PM
I didn’t do the on-pace number here, so I’d point out that it’s probably understating the projection because the MGL rate isn’t uniform over a typical season (though with the longer Olympic break, that’s not a certainty)
November 20, 2025 at 1:41 PM
If you ever wondered what day-to-day injury means, it’s quite simply not today and suspect probably not a possibility in two days
