is it only asylum seekers our Labour Prime Minister would object to living next to or would the sentiment apply to black and brown people in general? if merely the former, would he like to explain how he knows people he sees, say, in the street, actually are asylum seekers and not citizens?

Oh nothing, just the actual Prime Minister telling people they’re entirely correct to drive asylum seekers out of their communities
From BBC news website:

I 'completely get' concern over asylum hotels - Starmer

Starmer is asked how he would feel if a hotel housing asylum seekers was at the end of his street.
"I completely get it," Starmer says, adding: "Local people by and large do not want these hotels in their towns, in their place, and nor do I. I'm completely at one with them on that."
Starmer says he understands why people want the hotels closed and he wants that too "as quickly as possible".
Asked to put a date on it, Starmer reiterates his commitment to do so by the end of this Parliament.
When it's put to him that is four years away, he says he would like to bring that date forward, but does not commit to another date.

Boiling with rage hearing on the radio that Labour is welcoming in Refugee Week with the announcement that instead of asylum hotels they’ll be expanding the

“Mass” accommodation sites at places like ex-army bases.
There are not enough facepalms.

Sending solidarity and love to my friends, colleagues, followers and everyone else who is or ever has been a migrant, on this deeply disturbing and shocking day in British politics

Good luck to everyone expecting pupillage news today! It’s also worth saying that everyone I speak to about the application process, including many of the most impressive barristers and pupils I know, did not get pupillage their first time applying. Trust the process!

A very important reminder! The government & right wing press love to claim people legitimately exercising their rights are ‘abusing the system’ when it suits. Like care workers who brought dependents, as permitted by the rules, were suddenly abusing the system when that fit the gov’s narrative.

UK will discriminate against would-be students who are from persecuted groups.
Palestinian? No visa.
Christian from Pakistan or Iran? No visa.
Woman from Afghanistan? No visa.
Lesbian from Uganda? No visa.

The Home Office will restrict work and study visas from nationalities who are most likely to overstay and claim asylum. Visas will be rejected for individuals who fit the profile of someone who will go on to claim asylum and are from countries with high rates of asylum.

Ahh, the government trying to plug any and all safe routes for individuals at risk of serious harm to stay in the UK. It really disgusts me that they will still simultaneously pedal a narrative about wanting to ‘smash the gangs’ to protect vulnerable people.

Like Danny, I’m often consumed by the question of class. It definitely contributes to my imposter syndrome. I recommend listening if you also feel in this ‘class limbo’ - not quite fitting in at work, but at home your family insist that you’ve gone all posh! podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/t...

Recently immigration practitioners and judges have been singled out on social media, including their personal details. We strongly condemn this external pressure that potentially compromises their independence and work. Read our full statement here: tinyurl.com/yc3udmrn

If you want a pristine example of how absolutely everything in this country is distorted by the perceived need to perform for right wing voters, look no further than the question of permission to work for asylum seekers
From Guardian website:
According to the figures, allowing asylum seekers to work after six months would save the country £4.4bn in government expenditure, grow the economy by £1bn, increase tax revenue by £880m, reduce the mental health impacts of worklessness and destitution on asylum seekers, promote better integration, and reduce dependence on taxpayer support. A Home Office spokesperson said: “While the wellbeing of those in the asylum system is important, we remain determined to continue cracking down on anyone working illegally in the UK, and we certainly have no intention of creating a fast-track process so that people who come to the UK outside the established work visa rules are simply allowed to ignore them.”
