A lovely, serious but funny conversation between Mr Hope @zackpolanski.bsky.social and two incredibly witty women whose podcast The Trawl has helped me so many times not to despair, the wonderful @jemmaforte.bsky.social and @marina-purkiss.bsky.social. Great questions for Zack from them in it!

Source-phase Wasm import just landed in Deno.

This allows imported Wasm modules to be self-describing and sandboxable. No hidden JS glue, explicit capabilities only.

“Have Yourself A Merriam Little Christmas”

Merriam, a career-oriented lexicographer from the city, returns to her small town for the holidays and meets Webster, a ruggedly handsome librarian, who shows her the true DEFINITION of Christmas.

React should be retired.

It’s too complicated and it’s anti web.

There is just no need for it. If you want that kind of incredibly non web experience then maybe use WASM.

If you want a browser experience use plain old HTML CSS and JavaScript.

LLMs will say they remember and have no clue, because they are emulating human conversation patterns, not acting as tools.

If you want, you can instead spend this energy on Linux and/or Terminal and/or EMacs and have a better understanding of your system in general.
Also this bit, which is 100% an OpenAI sales shill relaying a story about the bot lying to them:

For most of human history half of babies born died before they were five. And then we collectively worked out how to stop that.
Currently dorking out over this graph about child mortality with my brother. Just mind boggling to take in.

Yesterday Zack got a bit of a kicking from Rory on the Rest is Politics.

Apart from the fact that Rory is a total moron there were some points that Zack needed to brush up on.

The day one thing you’d do as a Green PM (which let’s face it is unlikely but so what) is to stop the BoE …

Fuming? It must be eating away at their very core, I’d say their soul but we all know they sold that years ago. Zack Polanski is everything the right is not: charismatic, genuine, popular, and intelligent.

A Land Rover, a Range Rover and a series of Land Rover Discoveries here and all of them too would have not noticed this.

What is this “truck” for? It seems to be like a Sinclair C5 that can burn you to death.
I've owned 3 Jeeps, an Xterra, and a Porsche suv. All of them would have skated over this Sprinkle of snow. My VW Beetle would have, too. It's ridiculous. Musk is an idiot.

Ha! I claim Richard’s resignation as my own.

Next up “whine whine no really LLMs HAVE made me a better programmer”!

I am completely confident he’ll be gone before next weekend!
I am getting tired of saying it but this “technical error” of the OBR that led to the budget leak is because management are just not acceptably skilled for the 21st century. I expect PBR chair Richard Hughes knows no more about computers than Winston Churchill did.

the tendency to go to war for oil will continue as long as oil is the cheapest source of energy. solar + battery fixes this: it is already cheaper and removes most of the ongoing need to import oil. electrify all the things!
Geopolitical uncertainty --> Hi Fossil fuel prices --> more countries breaking free of expensive hydrocarbons & dollar dependence

It'll all be very rapid in 2020s as local energy production machines (solar PV+Batteries+EVs) get cheap. www.phenomenalworld.org/analysis/bri...

Dillo is migrating from GitHub. Another open source project made the decision to drop the AI infested/batshit crazy GitHub/Microsoft. We need a movement like the one where people dropped SourceForge back in the day when it started doing nasty things. That will teach them a lesson

This is such a stupid framing we’ve got into.

The reason to tax these people is to reduce inequality and have better societies for all. The smart ones WANT this because it makes things better for them and their loved ones.

The megalomaniacs don’t want this because they have no loves ones.

Rachel Reeves says on Laura Kuenssberg that she's asking working people to pay a little bit more.

This was all under the cover of a made up "black hole" whilst refusing to tax the super rich.
