Just finished book 12 of He Who Fights With Monsters, which means I’m in Unfinished Book Series Purgatory. It’s a place I’m well-acquainted with, having been here with Rothfuss, Martin, Muir, Yarros, etc. Anyone want to recommend another good unfinished series I can dive into masochistically?

@hillfamilybiking.org do any local stores stock a decent selection of fun bike lights (not head/tail lights)?

The gingerbread village at #TheRoost is really impressive. Clearly a lot of work went unto this, and the whole day of activities they have planned is great! @thehillishome.com

The Abus rear wheel lock on the Tern HSD is a feat of engineering. If you look straight at the lock and try to carefully inset the key, it WILL NOT GO IN. If, on the other hand, you close your eyes and stab the key in the general direction of the lock, it goes in every time.

DDOT continues to publish before/after analyses of safety projects. The numbers for the 9th street NW bike lanes suggest that we should be doing these projects everywhere we can. Crashes plummeted, pedestrian and bike traffic skyrocketed, and vehicle travel times dropped.

Biking home last night I almost hit another person on a bike who didn’t have any lights on. I’m not here for the “wear reflective clothing” stuff, but every moving vehicle—bike, car, or otherwise—should have lights at night.

New @ddotdc.bsky.social bike racks at Western Market! They’re already in use, and if you look at nearby racks you can see why the added capacity is helpful. Thanks DDOT!

Insane but true fact: making US roads as safe as Canadian, Australian, or European roads would save more lives than eliminating murder from the US.

Just watched a delivery driver sprint to his car because he parked in the road, blocking a lights-on ambulance. He moved the car to the other side and parked it in the street again. So many safety issues on our streets boil down to people’s impatience-fueled disrespect for other people’s safety.

Having grown up in Fairbanks, watching The Last Frontier on AppleTV is a weird experience. I can’t tell if they sent an actual scouting team to go up and do research or if they just sat an intern down with Google Maps and told them to write down all the words. 🤷‍♂️

Just watched these there cars all turn left from Eckinton PL to Florida Ave despite the no left turn. Enforcememt here would be good, but @ddotdc.bsky.social can you at least upgrade the signage so it’s more obvious?

The new Rivian e-bike sounds pretty amazing. Between the drive system, security features, regenerative braking, optional gear shifting, there's a lot that appeals, especially for urban biking. Curious to see what real-life review say.

I can imagine all the reasons why REI is closing down the online ReSupply, but it's nevertheless really disappointing. I'm not much of a used clothing shopper generally, but I've become a huge fan of ReSupply.

The lane going in at Florida/H St/14th NE is terrific, great work @ddotdc.bsky.social. Too often it’s these small gaps in an otherwise effective system of lanes that dramatically decrease the value and safety. This gap has been a problem for years, and it’s such an improvement to fix it. #bikedc

He paused while describing the car bomb in Iraq to say this:
