I’m proud to share my piece in the Connecticut Mirror on how we can begin rebuilding democracy in CT — starting with honest conversations and community engagement. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Opinion: Rebuilding Democracy starts with a conversation
Democracy is sustained by people looking each other in the eye and choosing cooperation over contempt.

I wrote a letter to The Day reflecting on something I think we all feel right now — we’re at our best when we talk to our neighbors, not just online but in real conversations.

The importance of talking to our neighbors
Democracy survives when we talk to one another. Not online, not through insults, but face to face — as neighbors.

Absolutely true
I really can't emphasize enough that if you care about local politics, all you gotta do is show up. Just a regular schmegular person showing up. Literally just show up consistently in person and within a remarkably short amount of time, you will have a shocking amount of influence.

Every day AI tools get more advanced — and so do the ways they can be abused.
States across the country are already dealing with deepfake robocalls, fake videos of candidates, and synthetic images designed to confuse voters.

AI is here to stay. The question is whether we shape it with values that reflect who we are.

I believe we can.
A future where deepfakes don’t mislead voters.
A future where students use AI to learn and grow.
A future where technology serves the public good.

That’s the horizon I’m pushing toward.

Sharing The Day’s article on Rep. Kevin Ryan. As I said in the piece, “What I’ll remember most is his kindness and his dry sense of humor — the quiet, steady way he made people feel supported and welcome.”

It is with great sadness that I share the passing of my colleague and friend, State Representative Kevin Ryan. Kevin was one of the first people I met when I began running for office in 2022, and from that moment on, he was a steady source of guidance and this past year, a first-time legislator.

Socialism is what they called social security.

Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.

Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.

Connecticut finally passed a real housing bill — and we should welcome it
HB 8002 is a compromise. It's not perfect, and more work will undoubtedly be needed. However, it moves Connecticut in the right direction.
