I really wish we had more books on video games being translated into English, bringing fresh perspectives.

For example, the 甦る伝説のRPG大全 is a Japanese 3-part collection on RPG history from 1975-2000. The games it covers and its perspectives are quite different from what the CRPG & JRPG Book cover.

Andrew Dice of Carpe Fulgur has passed. This is devastating. Not only did Recettear have a big impact on me, so too did their decision to found a company to translate indie games. It was incredible to see them go all in on their dreams like that. Respect to both of them. We’ll miss you Andrew.

I’m bummed they didn’t further iterate on it after 2. The closest thing I can think of is maybe Steambot Chronicles on PS2.

I feel like 3D action RPG mega man with customizable parts you get from enemies is a slam dunk! The children yearn for the splash mines

Nielsenauts is a storytelling/improv game kind of like Once Upon a Time, where players take the role of futuristic virtual constructs who only exist to make 15 minute TV episodes in real time. If the players fail to hit the company’s arbitrary and pointlessly cumbersome metrics, they’re deleted.

Knowing that the most popular form of entertainment in the USA was minstrelsy, this AI music shit makes perfect sense to me. It's the most reasonable outcome, tbh. The consumption of Black people (literally and figuratively) is how this nation came to be.

I started playing The Invisible Guardian, the visual novel about a being a spy in 1939, during Japan's occupation of China.

It's interesting how we're used to seeing Hitler in pop culture, but you rarely see Hirohito in this sort of stuff... I wonder if this is why the game is so region-locked...

In a month a book I wrote is dropping via @spacepenguinink.bsky.social, so I thought I might be a responsible author for once and promote it. Check out this absolutely wonderful cover art by @itsjustgart.bsky.social, every illustration here is top notch.

In all seriousness though the monumental (and a certain slime-like life form) are pretty key to picking up what Demon’s Souls is putting down. It’s a game whose ideological statements deserve to be highlighted. Excited to see Robert’s thoughts on that if he shares more.
