Finding different ways to name 100 different head slot magic items is a staple of fantasy rpg design.
I still remember the joy I felt when I asked you if I could name a hat a "chapeau" and you were all "sure"

It felt like such a triumph at the time

One of the producers on Guilty Gear Strive said it was basically impossible to source player feedback on balance changes online because nobody had original opinions and would just parrot what the most popular content creators said and so they had to rely on data and I think about that every day.

I've mentioned Xuan-Yuan Sword: Mists Beyond the Mountains before, but its Silk Road setting deserves more praise

It goes from Francia to Venice, Damascus, Baghdad, Tashkent & Chang'An, following historical events of ~750 AD like the Abbasid revolution, the Battle of Talas, and Tang Dynasty crisis.

This interview is a snapshot into where tech companies are with online harassment right now.

They know how to end it, but they decided not to spend the money. They’re prioritizing growth (and profit) above all else. And they’re blaming YOU for logging on to the platform they designed to be unsafe.

I don't feel like I can do a good GOTY list this year, besides Digimon & Silksong I mostly played older games... one of my favorites still is Fire in the Beastlands, a 2021 metroidvânia with only 20 Steam reviews: store.steampowered.com/app/1814870/...

Great list! How crazy it is that we could still keep going, adding stuff like Citizen Sleeper 2, Sultan's Game, Rift Wizard 2, Tainted Grail, Fantasy Maiden Wars, The Last Sovereign, Inazuma Eleven, Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum, Approaching Infinity, The Necromancer's Tale...

And 2025 isn't over!
here's something neat

the folks at @inverse.com trusted me to whip up a list of the top 25 rpgs of 2025, putting the team's top choices and my own picks together for a big ol' ranking endeavor

including review quotes from @solfleet.bsky.social to distribute blame where appropriate :D
The 25 Best RPGs of the Year, Ranked
As a team effort here at Inverse, we cooked up a big ol’ list of the 25 best RPGs of 2025, and believe it or not, there were still runners-up that are just as worth checking out.

I feel a lot of people's hate for roguelikes come from only playing modern interpretations that have little to offer besides victory / defeat.

Even Hades relies on narrative & meta progression to make "bad RNG" tolerable. Meanwhile, it's legit fun to die in weird ways in Caves of Cud, ToME4 or DCSS

I love Chinese & Taiwanese Wuxia RPGs, not only for the cool martial arts setting but also for playing differently from Western & Japanese RPGs.

I often get asked for recommendations. I had a big thread on Twitter, so here's a new one!

Os preços locais dos caras são insanos, tá 53% mais caro na Polônia q no Japão.

Samurai Warriors 1 is a messy game with a rather bland cast, but the way they portray Nobunaga is so fun. Manages to be concise and memorable.

For modern standards it might come across as too heavy-handed & edgy, but in 2004 it paired perfectly with stuff like the Hellsing anime & Evanescence lol

Rebecca Heineman's last message was for people to look up her departed partner, Jennell Jaquays.

Jaquays was so influent to tabletop RPGs that "Jaquaysing" became a verb for designing complex, non-linear dungeons.

Rebecca was one of the founders of Interplay and programmed & designed for some of the most influential games of my youth, notably Bard's Tale I & III and Wasteland. She will be missed.
