Judgemental as fuck. But also sleepy. I have lots of ideas. I should be writing right now, but reading feels more productive.

After a long pause, I've just done another England Covid & NHS update as we head into the autumn/winter season.

TLDR: we're in a significant Covid wave now, the NHS is stretched, get boosted if you're eligible.

Mike Davis clerked for Neil Gorsuch, worked in DOJ and on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Now he is an election denier troll who peddles conspiracies on Steve Bannon's show.

So, of course, all of that makes him a close ally of the Trump regime.

Black church going Boomers loved Rush and O'Reilly in the late 80s and early 90s. They were and still are repeating most of the same talking points.

Reagan and Limbaugh were extremely racist, but that's because they're untalented whites. They were raised that way, in mediocrity.

I don't think the genre is dead and I think Maroon 5 went pop to survive. Fall Out Boy and Paramore essentially have done the same
bazluken.blacksky.app
i credit maroon 5 for killing adult alternative because after they dropped harder to breathe, bands like this no longer needed to pretend to be subversive to be successful. you could have a 5-6 piece band and still just go full pop

Those lists are always garbage

lol i spent a good bit wracking my brain trying to think of a band that has a 90's adult alt sound that far into the 00's and there you go! i think these days they say it's "post grunge" but yeah it's the same sound. it's history and semantics at this point, where i'd argue that they're revivalist--
immaculateice.bsky.social
I don't mean they're all from the same genre, just examples of long tenured bands eventually adopting pop sounds at some point. I see what you mean about adult alt being related to grunge, but I'm curious where you think Daughtry falls genre wise? I would label him as adult alt lowkey
bazluken.blacksky.app
i can see where you're coming from, i just think adult alternative was a moment that could only exist in the grunge era of alternative. i wouldn't consider the post-emo and garage revival alt bands like fall out boy and paramore "adult." a lack of maturity is kinda what characterizes their era

16. What childhood feeling do you miss the most?
oglauren.bsky.social
Pretty clutch. Everyone was really sweet and my family and friends were always very close by, so it was super easy to see each other. And I know everyone says this, but we really did have the best television shows and toys and childhoods. Our things were influenced by both cocaine and innovation 🤣

14. What was your childhood like?
oglauren.bsky.social
The freedom and the fact that I didn't need money.

13. What is something from childhood you didn't appreciate until you became an adult?

Establishing and maintaining flexibility

12. What was easier in childhood but difficult as you get older?
oglauren.bsky.social
Being spoken to and followed around neighborhood stores by grown men as a toddler (my mother was usually one aisle away and was always trying to beat someone's ass for coming near me)

11. What was the first event that disproved your childhood belief that the world is a safe place?
oglauren.bsky.social
Walking to and from my pre-k school with my dad every day. On our way to Ocean Parkway, we would see the conductor who worked for the MTA. She was so nice. 🥰 On the way back, sometimes, we would stop at the nursery and buy bulbs so we could plant tulips and perennials in the front and backyard.

Um, I’m confused as to why you aren’t using DuckDuckGo for those kinds of activities 🫣

I never utilize that browser in any other circumstances

It is a fact that if your parents did not read Goodnight Moon to you, they did not love you. That is literally the yardstick to use in order to quantify their love for you.

My apologies if this is how you're learning that fact, but I do not make the rules.

You do know that most of the people on the planet who are circumcised, are not Jewish, right? Conservative christians wanted to cut boys' penises because they thought it would keep them from touching themselves. They mutilated you because they wanted you to stop masturbating. That's literally it
oglauren.bsky.social
The babbling is incoherent, but circumcision is mutilation, and you shouldn't do it. It is unethical, has no practical reasoning behind it, and it makes people who have penises less likely to wear a condom due to decreased sensitivity.

I finished one of the most beautiful ARCs last night. The cover grabbed me. Imma read everything this author has now. Look at this!!

📖: The Leaving Room by Amber McBride #blackbooksky 📚
Book cover for The Leaving Room by Amber McBride. The cover features a black girl colored in blue with dark blue braids fashioned in a bun. The background is reminiscent of Starry Night. In the foreground, there are red, yellow, and orange flowers. She's looking up to the sky.

I own Be Cool, The Descent, Mr & Mrs Smith, Spiderman 2 & another movie on DVD.

But VHS? My family used to buy everything for me bc they wanted me to desperately stop watching horror movies, 101 Dalmatians, & The Little Mermaid every two minutes. Have everything from Ren & Stimpy to Amores Perros
