i recently got a great deal on a barely used folding ebike and i have to say it has revolutionized my train travel. i can get from my front door to the amtrak station in a little less than 5 minutes!!!

The Turing test misunderstands human nature and overvalues human judgement. We are not difficult to trick,
we are built to assume consciousness: we are animist at heart and it is very cool.
We should just be very careful when building tools that leverage this otherwise sweet weakness of us

the popularity of the turing test as a concept has ruined people's ability to understand what sentience is. a machine that can trick you in to thinking it's human isnt intelligent just because you fell for it. do you think the raptor puppets from jurassic park are sentient? seemed pretty real to me.

Also they hate the feeling of not being morally superior (which they have with the MAGA) so they always have to present a slippery slope.
Every opinion they have can be summed up as “yes all good ideals, but you start by saying no one should starve and before you know you are building the gulag!”

I am just a news reader, so no particular insight. Meloni is described as hoping the problem will disappear coz every move=she loses, no strong pro Israel stance. Feeling is, as soon as trump flips, she flips. Italian style 😅but again, just FantaPolitics

Also the right has no solidarity with Israel, suppression of pro Palestine movements is based on Islamophobia and anti Arab sentiment,so who knows how public opinion will evolve.
Centre left society is clearly showing what they think, not sure how much pressure they can exercise on the gov

Not in Italy so I don’t have the pulse of the situation on the ground.
But short answer would be that Meloni is facing no internal dissent, centre-right is compact in calling GSF instigators.
Still the kidnapping of Italian boats and politicians in int. waters is a credibility crisis 4 nationalists

Oh they’re a great journalistic project (Serra, the journalist from La Repubblica you quoted also works for them), I’d recommend them as the primary source to understand italian news.

My go-to Italian newspaper Il Post sane-washed the whole thing and didn’t even mention the worst parts of the speech. So committed to moderation that when reality becomes outrageous you just rewrite reality.

Some comics were transparent about their willingness to ignore their moral convictions in order to play at the festival. “So what, they have slaves?” asked Tim Dillon in a podcast segment that led to his firing from the festival. “They’re paying me enough money to look the other way.” Pete Davidson offered a similar take, acknowledging in a chat with Von that people have asked him why, given his father’s death on 9/11, he would take a paycheck from the Saudi government. He did not address the criticism directly, but he did suggest he was happy to forget 9/11 for the right price: “I just know I get the routing, and then I see the number, and I go, ‘I’ll go.’”

The left is/fights for the underrepresented. When the mainstream joins it’ll always be too late and after too much suffering. How to let go of some grudges while remaining vigilant, keep fighting and still celebrate is a challenge, this is what the Kleins get right.
But man they misread reality atm
