A heartbreaking chart taken from a vital report by the IFS, particularly in the context of some of the commentary around mental health and disability benefits
The rise in recent mortality is driven by ‘deaths of despair’.

Working age deaths attributed to alcohol, drugs and suicide were up 24% in 2023 on pre-pandemic levels: this is consistent with an increase in severe mental health problems.

Last 2024 highlight… activating Fort Road parkrun back in the summer. In some ways easier than a “normal” parkrun (certainly for land owner permission!) but in others more tricky. One thing seems clear though, custodial events do make a positive difference.

Just got student feedback from my Epi I class (very first time in-person teaching!) and it was across the board incredibly positive. Probably a quarter of the class commented specifically about liking my energy, but my favorite comment said I'm "a bit much." *Cackles* Oh, if only they knew.
