bari weiss's cbs: "america"/"american," focus is "journalism" not the journalists themselves, doesn't dwell on standards, speed-focused, "uses all of the tools of the digital era"

newly independent msnbc: focus on journalists themselves, ethics, freedom of speech/1st Amendment, "the world," AI-wary
Bari Weiss’s CBS News and MSNBC both just laid out their new journalistic principles — and they’re fascinatingly different
Lot of news coming out of the networks this morning: Bari Weiss, founder of the pro-Israel, anti-woke Free Press, has sold the four-year-old news site to CBS parent company Paramount for a reported $1...

"Beyond social media scams, women journalists have also increasingly been the target of pornographic deepfakes used to harass and blackmail them, and deepfakes created to fuel disinformation campaigns and push political narratives."

What gets Americans interested in supporting local news?

New research shows words that test poorly across demographics include: Democracy (when used as a political appeal), Republican/Democrat, Marginalized (without clear civic relevance), Objective, and Political www.niemanlab.org/2025/10/dont...
Don’t dwell on “democracy,” and other new findings about how to market local news

Deepfakes of broadcast journalists are spreading across social media. Many of them are ads selling cryptocurrencies, gambling apps, and snake oil medicines.

Meanwhile, social media companies like Meta profit off the ad dollars. My latest @niemanlab.org. www.niemanlab.org/2025/10/scam...

Broadcast journalists around the world are being targeted amid an explosion in deepfake scams. Are social media platforms doing enough to counter them?

"Without intervention from major social media platforms ... there’s only so much individual journalists and newsrooms can do to counter these scams."

Super annoying. Even when an FT journalist reached out to the top of Meta and got false ads pulled, they showed up on the platform for 6 weeks! 1,700 ads were placed on Facebook and Instagram using his likeness.

The only thing that stopped it? When he wrote about his experience in an FT column.

“We said, if we don’t aggressively move people from social media platforms that we don’t control to platforms that we do control, this business isn’t going to work and we aren’t going to have jobs anymore.” @jasonkobler.bsky.social @404media.co | via @niemanlab.org www.niemanlab.org/2025/09/the-...
“The AI-ification of email” keeps 404 Media’s Jason Koebler up at night
For now, though, email newsletters have "completely changed" 404's business "almost literally overnight."
