That’s how it is supposed to be probably

Sure, that makes sense.

Good idea. there would need to be a dataset which would record every touch of the game with outcomes. Honestly, not sure if it exists, maybe teams collect this kind of stuff

Yes! I am watching a lot of Barca’s matches. Their tackles up the field often end up in midfield just due to their style of play. So your potential metric would need to somehow account for this. Then the question remains, are two identical tackles also identical in value depending on style of play?

Rice tackles. Ball bounces to Gabriel (1st pass), Gabriel passes to Timber on the wing (pass 2), Timber passes to Raya (pass 3). Adding up your previous factors like number of opponents open etc this gives you a certain type of tackle that could be graded. Something like that

Absolutely. That is why I’ve suggested ‘after 3 touches or passes after the tackle’ so that it becomes clearer what the outcome of the moment is. 3 is an arbitrary number though. It could even be different for different teams.

But I probably don’t know what I am talking about lol, just thinking out loud

Sometimes the tackle happens up the field but without good options to attack the ball can go back to midfield or even goalkeeper. Was it still a good tackle? Sure. Is it as valuable as an attack that led to a goal situation? No. Or the ball may travel horizontally.

I don’t know if it is easy or even if such data is available publicly, but I guess you could divide the field into 3 zones (or more?) and then track where the ball ends up after 3 passes/touches (or a goal) after the tackle (or other derived number)? Maybe some weights assigned to zones.

Maybe also the number of teammates ready to back the tackler up? Like, say, Rice makes a tackle but Zubimendi and Eze are right behind him or Rice makes a tackle and the opponent has a clear space behind him if tackle is unsuccessful.

Give them something to hate, come on

As someone who ran away from Russia I know why you are talking about (never thought I’d ever say this about America but here I am)

Any indication it will be over soon?

Crazy

It was fun to see yesterday how for a moment Calafiori was playing where Rice is normally playing and Rice was on the left in defense. Or when Calafiori opened up at the striker’s position. Opponents’ heads must be spinning

As a person who follows baseball and also a Yankees fan 9 games is just 9 games. Yankees were the best team in baseball in April and where are they now? I’ll wait till January at least to make conclusions. And even then I will be very cautious. I have got into this trap many times over the years…

When it was 90+th minute yesterday, I was thinking: the old Arsenal would have allowed a late goal and it would have been a draw. I can put up with boring 1-0’s if it leads to championship

Here we, Arsenal fans, go again asking ‘is this the year?’…
