maybe an exponential increase in distinct PDS hosts would add measurable marginal cost, but distributing existing bsky PDS users onto 3rd party hosts with moderation that's *more* strict than 1st party bsky is the dream.

the option to view replies in a tree is part of the problem, but even with the default view: replies more than 3 deep shouldn't be visible until you drill down. it just encourages this behavior
