Wow, how great to hear some statemanship taking place in the world!

I read all his books when I was in my teens, not realising then how right wing his views were. Having said that, the 2 books pictured each had interesting things to say about how the world might turn out differently.

Excellent. It sounds like a great project, as some will def be worth an airing.
Let me know if any of the students want to know about women in engineering in the (later part of) era.

What a wonderful assignment. You/they should publish them all!

But surely only Mr Boothby imparts that?

The post office managed to sit on a hamper of cheeses sent to relatives for christmas, for over 2 weeks, so we asked for another. Our relatives were thrilled to get both. Eventually.

Compare it to, say, military or maritime academies taking in cadets for professional training & officer commissions. Cadets are recruited on character, aptitude and capacity to learn what is to be taught, rather less on what they can already do.

I don't hate it but the whole vibe of the academy and cadets feels wrong. TBF this is an extension of its represenation throughout the franchise: the cadets arrive already amazingly expert at all sorts of things such that it seems hard to know what the academy might add.

I too cannot find my copy of Rising Tide although I have the government's letter to Nancy with their response to it. I am fairly sure I met her, possibly when I was helping to run AWISE or the Scottish women in SET programme.

I am fairly sure I may have many years ago. I only recall her referred to as Nancy Lane.

I was nearly late for a talk on Wednesday because my train was delayed by a squirrel on the line.

Living in Scotland, I find the title of the final part a bit on the condescending side.......
