one of my favourite useless historical trivia things is that the original name of the character Merlin was the Welsh name Myrddin. This was changed bc it was too close to the French word for shit (merde)

Autistic people are more likely to have gynecological issues, which is a nugget of info that could have helped me literally 20 years ago

Adolescents with autism and those with other developmental disabilities are less likely than their typically developing peers to visit the obstetrician-gynecologist and to use hormonal contraception, ...

Re: the R word - every disabled person knows the pain of it. I’m autistic & have specific times where I’m very visible - usually in high distress, medical settings, crowded places. That look - the combination of pity & disgust - the moment you realise they don’t see you as human? That’s the R word.

its believed that Richard Jones wrote Greensleves (or was first to do so) in 1580, under the title of "A Newe Northen Dittye of ye Ladye Greene Sleves. Henry Viii had been dead 39 years at that point!
I don’t believe Henry VIII wrote Greensleeves. Never have. There. I said what I said. Never trusted that bloke. Stolen musical valour! Be just like that prick. You think he took a break from lopping wives’ heads off to write fucking Greensleeves. You’re having’ a laugh mate
Henry VIII finishing Greensleeves: "I haue written a peece of musicke yt wyll make all ye worlde thinke, lo, I could really goe for a 99"

working in homelessness is so much fun bc people constantly complain on social media that "only foreigners get a look in" like, your anger is aimed at the wrong target like i get it's easier to put the blame on the "other" than restructuring a broken system but for fucks sake

as the result of a union twixt an Irish man and an English woman, i can vouch for this. this happens every single tea time
Could never marry an Englishman. Too many communication difficulties. Him repeatedly asking for pudding after dinner, me presenting him each time with a tube of congealed pig blood, both of us angrily weeping

jsyk I currently work as a Social Care worker in the field of homelessness. I've been at it since August and it's tough sometimes, but I love it. I've met some wonderful and eclectic people so far
