I’ve decided it’s past time I start describing “artificial intelligence” as a failed technology, and I’d like you to join me.

“Artificial intelligence” is a failed technology. It’s time we described it that way.

I've always felt a strong kinship with Superman. And now that I've had some time to sit with my thoughts about the new movie I figured I'd share a few that are the most present for me.

As a fan of things, there's nothing quite as frustrating as dodging metaphorical bullets on the internet when you don't want to be spoiled by people who have no impulse control.

So, product idea? A keyword blacklist for browsers that removes that content from websites so we won't get got.

I know we don't feel like there's much to celebrate this July 4th. It's been a rough several years.

So I want to talk about how we're making history right now.

In all of the discussions happening around AI, I think I'm most worried about how it's going to affect new folks.

I finally decided I that it would be good to share some of my shorter, less-structured thoughts as a multi-hyphenate creative. And especially in our ever-increasing world of "more", this insight from my work as a composer seemed a good place to start.

I see Apple has entered it's "Aero" phase with iOS18. And I'm frankly a little concerned about the accessibility of it all.

A few screen grabs showed icons, secondary text, and even primary text failing minimum requirements in some cases.

"reasoning model" is kind of like "gourmet deli" - if it was true you wouldn't need to put it in the name, because it would be self evident. It's only there as a counter argument against the evidence of your eyes.
A knockout blow for LLMs?

When you see one of my takes on AI, here’s a little context around how I feel.

AI is a tool, and tools can be incredibly useful. But It’s also being stewarded by the worst kind of people, and as such is being designed to lay waste to everything that doesn’t directly enrich those same stewards.

"I should be allowed to make money off your hard work without compensating you" is both a reprehensible, and obvious pov from people in tech. And it's well past time this changed.

Here's a friendly reminder, creativity awards are popularity contests and in no way an objective measure of the quality of something.

Probably my least favorite gaming trend right now is waiting 15+ minutes for shaders to compile before I can do even one thing with the game.

How do different gameplay systems affect an inventory experience? And how do you help players manage that experience when a templated weapon system is in play? These things are really interesting questions that my latest project dives into.

If AI (particularly of the LLM variety) consistently lies about stuff, doesn't agentic AI risk creating the worst possible version of the telephone game?

And given that, shouldn't AI companies fix the "AI lies to us all the time" problem first?

So many people in tech who fawn over, and relentlessly push AI remind me of the foaming mouth guy from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Sometimes I wonder why I do things on hard mode — for example making a skeuomorphic UI despite not having made one in 10+ years. And then I'm reminded that the challenge/friction in learning is part of what I love about it.

I think I need help. maybe.
