I don't think advancement is necessary for it to be good or fun - the nature of talking about something like a game or any other piece of media means that most questions and arguments don't exactly have right answers.

I don't like how "discourse" became a bad word for a bad thing. Discussion with differing views on stuff is fun! At least when it's not like an axiomatic difference in basic values lol

I hate that so many people don’t view gameplay as art, they view it as the obstacle preventing you from watching the story, which is the only part they consider art.

Thinking about Difficulty more because I was popping off about it on stream tonight, but I keep going back and thinking to how people give like.. intro reading/watching/listening lists for subjects that are dense and hard to get into, so people can build literacy in various mediums and genres.

Hollow Knight is/was one of my favorites. Silksong blows it out of the water.

I remembered Team Cherry's producer said something like "Hollow Knight was a rushed game on a shoestring budget. Silksong will show you what these guys are really capable of." And damn was that confidence warranted.

I guess the second best category of genres is also just the ones that describe like, aesthetic sensibilities ala most music genres and stuff like cyberpunk or High Fantasy

-more connected to how they make you FEEL or more specifically, how they want you to engage with them. Mystery, Horror, etc. The fact that they coexist makes it all the more confusing lol. That's the natural evolution of language though. No recognized council existed to guide us or anything.

Genres across pretty much all mediums, but games especially, seem to trend towards. being named more for what you do/what happens in them. First Person Shooter, Platformer, hell even medium spanning genres like Fantasy or Action. Makes sense in a lot of ways, but I wish there were more that were-
