dear bio and behavioural scientists. you cannot (reasonably) use concepts in your own mind to explain the bio system you are studying, unless the bio system contains/can-access the referent of the concept. your concepts are not causal outside of you. bizarre how common this is.

It nags at me that people are dancing around the fact that one reason centre-right think-tanks are in an intellectual crisis moment is because we've spent over a decade where lots of their ideas were tried out and didn't pan out as advertised.

My professional timeline right now is made up of four distinct silos wrt the principal global threat/challenge we face, in roughly this order:

1. AI

2. Russia

3. China

4. Climate

I'd reverse the order and eliminate the silos.

But most notably, Trump II has no plan for dealing with any of them.

This path was chosen when Labour chose to surrender to brexitism. Voters who disliked that but chose to reward it cos #gtto have chosen to lose Labour as representatives of their politics. Was it worth it to somewhat reduce tactical political risk? At this point, I think we can say no, it was not

If people just stop working, protests are barely even necessary, and sitting at home presents no targets for the regime. Not to say don't protest, that's up to peeps. But protests can be ignored and shot at, whereas grinding production to a halt is very hard to stop or exploit
