it all comes back to this doesn't it

kinda feels like this
vicious cycle meme with 4 stages:
stage 1: more time to develop new features
stage 2: more users use bluesky, which means more moderation
stage 3: less time to develop new features
stage 4: less users use bluesky because stagnated feature development (which loops back to stage 1)

I think lack of discoverability is one of the issues. To this day there's no way for someone using the app to know a labeler exists unless someone links to it. It's the reason I made the Labeler Explorer feed, and even though it's literally just one line of regex it's my most liked feed

@mackuba.eu looks like someone gave me meds and I got better 😊

6 labels found:
"wizard" from TTRPG Class Identifier
"microwaved-burrito-foil" from The Cave of Trophonius
"he" from
"hero" from Alt Heroes
"joined-feb-c" from Joined Labeler
"bouba" from Kiki/Bouba Labeller

yeah I don't post very often, though the way you said I "caught" this label and the fact it apparently has a 1 week cooldown makes me imagine it's like a mild cold, which is pretty amusing 🤧

especially when the post format here is infamously prone to people taking things out of context and doesn't easily allow for nuanced conversations

deck.blue
for the next update, when you reload with the new version, all your bookmarks will be converted to bsky's bookmarks and all new bookmarks will be using their feature instead

there will be no required action to do this and the UX within deck.blue won't change too
piratito.com
@deck.blue are you planning on incorporating the new bluesky bookmark feature? ta.

wait what

also insta and by extension threads allow periods (".") in usernames, which look like domain name handles, how are they gonna deal with that? 😬

No. 10 Hurricane Signal just hoisted for Hong Kong. The symbol used to represent this signal is a cross, fitting for Rapture Day

I think on a per-app level it would be possible for appviews to simply stop serving the posts when someone "locks" their account. Obviously the posts are still public but perhaps the friction of needing another service/app to access the posts would be enough to dissuade most people?

imo it's a good thing the discussion has changed. PDSes were the easiest to host so at first it was the goal. Relays were next as people raised concerns about decentralization, and today the new goalpost is the Appview. The fact the discussion has changed proves that the protocol is maturing!

I think we should name it something similar to the search engine since it's the equivalent role in the atmosphere... the "social engine" maybe???

i get tired by “oh no bsky controls 99.999% of everything” because imo that’s significantly a community-building problem and we don’t have data to know if it’s something architecturally inherent or more about fast growth dynamics

any version of tetris will do, but if I had to pick one, it would be Tetris The Grand Master 4: Absolute Eye since it fits all the criteria almost perfectly

3. If you see content that disturbs you, immediately (or as fast as possible) go and play 20-30 minutes of Tetris (or any other fast-paced game with your eyes sweeping over the visual field that has caused visual artifacts to linger when you close your eyes for you in the past).

Conversations around decentralisation and the open social web have gotten fairly unproductive, resulting in a letter calling for mutual respect

Im signing it, and with that, I have thoughts regarding discourse, decentralisation and why this space matters.

On discourse and decentralisation
Over the last year, as Bluesky got more popular, conversations about whether Bluesky and ATProto are really ‘decentralised’ have gotten more “popular” as well. These conversations ranged from high-qua...
