Great turnout and positive vibes at the grand opening of Sunset Dunes! I enjoyed volunteering at the bouncy castle and bubble making station. Was so busy I forgot to take a better pic (this was a few blocks from the festivities).

Final round of dune grass planting is complete! Excited to watch this area regenerate over the coming years as we direct our energy towards building and restoring other parts of this beautiful oceanfront.

You can join Sutro Stewards every first and third Saturday to participate in trail maintenance like this, and even some new trail building.

It doesn’t look like much, but now this portion of the trail on Mount Sutro will survive future rainstorms. We removed the bern (downhill buildup of soil) so that water can flow off the trail. We also cut into the backslope to reestablish the trail’s footprint.

Following up on the installation of fencing and signage last weekend, today we transplanted native dune grasses onto the bare dunes south of the trail at Judah.

We learned how this project will replace the need for bulldozers and dump trucks to constantly move sand down Ocean Beach.
