🥚 Boxes for anyone to dump babies into were legalized by so-called safe-haven laws pushed by anti-abortionists and passed right after traditional welfare was ended in 1996 and women had to work to get benefits.

Now they’re proliferating.

because i’m over 50 and nobody cares how i look (except possibly my boss? will find out!) i’ve been having some of my old trousers and jeans altered into hobbit form. which makes them super convenient and comfortable for cycling.

My lower legs by my office desk. My dark blue trousers are hemmed at mid-calf.

There is a wild adoption sub subplot in the latest season of the Gilded Age. I too felt triggered. But this is pre Georgia Tann so it wasn’t a hero worshipping moment instead it was part of her shameful past. Which, to be honest, I really appreciated.

i also learned that she convinced her gentleman friend to learn to drive. so, at 65, he did. then he bought himself a Cadillac, and now they entertain themselves by cruising the streets of their small town.
she deserves all this happiness and more.

for weeks i was trying to reach my birth mother on the phone, but it went to voicemail every time. finally i asked her sister if everything was ok, and i learned that her gentleman friend took her on a cruise! it’s something she’s always wanted to do, but she never had the means.

Hollywood (broad term for entire entertainment industry) is very, very adopter-heavy. I'm constantly learning about present and past celebrities who adopted. Excellent PR and the fees are couch change if you are rich. It's inherently performative so ofc will bleed into plotlines.

on a library listserv the other day, someone asked about the distinction between a book's "release date" and its "street date." a tech services dept. head replied by cutting and pasting a google "ai overview" which contradicted itself. why are we choosing to poison ourselves like this?
