Someone told me recently that part of the writing process is THINKING about writing. Nobody sits and writes immediately at the computer. And I wish they had told me that 3 years ago when this all started and I was feeling anxious, lazy, and ashamed of NOT doing so

But its true. Let your mind THINK.

I know name generators exist but trust me when I say that name meanings *matter* in this world.

I just want to get to know this character already and that all hinges on melting into the right name. Gahhhhh.

So frustrated. I had the *perfect* name (thematically/etymologically) for my main antagonist and then I realised it was another "-en" name (already 2 of those) so then I found *another* perfect name to get attached to only to realise late it matches FIRST syllables with his main foil #help #writer

I still chicken-scratch in my notebooks, but the core info, the "decided" stuff, lives in Notion (which, yes, is backed up) and its visual (how my brain thinks) and - most importantly - easily moveable and changeable as I get new insights. This alone has saved me a bunch of time and frustration.

It has little 'baseball card'-esque stats, concept photos, how X connects to Y, character profiles and it's a *game changer*

This project is such an ever-evolving thing that writing this all down left me not knowing what had been fully decided and what had been discarded...ie confusing, annoying.

After filling several notebooks with PhD novel scratchings and having then been annoyed when I have a brilliant insight *without* my notebooks nearby to check deets, I have decided to morph all the world-building stuff into a sort of Notion cheat-sheet that I can bring up on my phone quickly #writer

Oooooh yes. It's also a proven way for screeny-wordy workers (students, academics, anyone who has to be deep-thinking all day) to lower stress and provide the right mix of brain chemistry to facilitate new insights and creative works after frying the synapses all day.
