South Australian. Moderately competent later-in-life PhD candidate. Delightfully book-tragic. Will waffle on sometimes about writing.
Every time I find myself sad about the state of social media and how it's a cesspit of negativity and hate, I come across a WeRateDogs post and instantly remember that there is still good, selfless people in the world, that dogs are better than humans, and that when you put the two together - wow.
We have donated over $1 million to our foundation just with "tell your dog i said hi" merch proceeds ❤️‍🩹

I have not been feeling fantastic about the state of the world for quite some time.

But today, TODAY I am beyond thrilled to see so many with legs and voices and hearts strong enough, out in force against hate and division across multiple cities around the States.

Be loud. Drown 'em out. #NoKings

Published 75 years ago today. These early 80s covers remain so evocative for me. The shaggy hair (Aslan’s too), the knitwear, and the gorgeous burnished colouring. I can see now the children represent a middle-class, mildly boho ideal. Who doesn’t want Peter’s jumper?

Same, but sub beach cabin for Tuscan villa...
I'm not sure that a week alone in a small cabin by the beach would fix me, but I'm willing to try at this point.

There is no greater measurement of the start of the Australian warm season than a perpetually-freezing #ItalianGreyhound deploying #PancakeMode™️ on toasty patio pavers.

#TheTenantOfWildfellHall - #AnneBronte - is an *objectively better* novel than Jane Eyre (Charlotte) and Wuthering Heights (Emily)...

...and the only reason it doesn’t get the love it deserves today is in large part because Charlotte meddled horrendously with Anne's legacy #UnhingedOpinion

Someone told me recently that part of the writing process is THINKING about writing. Nobody sits and writes immediately at the computer. And I wish they had told me that 3 years ago when this all started and I was feeling anxious, lazy, and ashamed of NOT doing so

But its true. Let your mind THINK.

Did it still make me laugh? Also, yes.

So frustrated. I had the *perfect* name (thematically/etymologically) for my main antagonist and then I realised it was another "-en" name (already 2 of those) so then I found *another* perfect name to get attached to only to realise late it matches FIRST syllables with his main foil #help #writer

After filling several notebooks with PhD novel scratchings and having then been annoyed when I have a brilliant insight *without* my notebooks nearby to check deets, I have decided to morph all the world-building stuff into a sort of Notion cheat-sheet that I can bring up on my phone quickly #writer

Oooooh yes. It's also a proven way for screeny-wordy workers (students, academics, anyone who has to be deep-thinking all day) to lower stress and provide the right mix of brain chemistry to facilitate new insights and creative works after frying the synapses all day.
Making a physical item with your hands is truly an unmatched experience. There wasn't a thing, and I made there be a thing. It exists now :)

Remember, chasing your dreams is a radical act. Writing books and making art are expressions of optimism and faith in human nature. Conceiving of better worlds makes them possible.
