I photographed this Creon Skipper in El Valle de Antón, #Panama, years ago. I later learned from a lepidopterist that it was the first known photograph of a living subspecies—the Lilliana Creon Skipper (Creonpyge creon lilliana). To this day, it may still be the only photograph of the subspecies.

For anyone drawn to vivid colors in nature, leafhoppers rival coral reef fish in brilliance. There are about 6,000 reef fish species on Earth—but an estimated 120,000 leafhoppers. The variety is staggering, and only a third have been described. This one is Macunolla ventralis. #insectphotography

This tiny hummingbird—the Violet-headed Hummingbird—weighs about as much as a paperclip.
The more time you spend with #hummingbirds, the more you notice how uniquely each one wears light. This species is known for a violet, almost electric purple head when seen straight on, but I love the sideview.
