A couple of weeks ago, it seemed like a lot of people who diversifying a way from Twitter (to here) were doing so out of ideological reasons. Which, you know, fine. But the real issue with Twitter is just how bad its become for, you know, following news, and seeing posts from people you know.
It probably speaks to how maybe a fitness or fashion influencer wants a certain kind of reach but a news/media/poster person might want a different kind. I’m generally not looking for “unconnected reach” in my posts, I want my core 2-3,000 followers to see it and engage.
so I think their mistake was that they identified (correctly!) that algorithmic timelines are good for Not Very Online People, who are the majority of people online, but Very Online People prefer non-algo TLs and, crucially, they're the ones doing most of the posting, and they bring people with them
