There’s a group of people who love to claim far and wide that they’re more leftwing than *insert current popular left wing politician here* yet never do anything to show it. I’m sure that doesn’t actually mean anything

V good - as Tom points out, much of living in the UK today is built around either believing, or tolerating, being lied to directly to your face. Pointing out the lie will get you yelled at, castigated and publicly shamed, and underneath it all, a fear of what happens once the lie unravels
Hi guys, I've decided as everyone else has to start a substack. Here's my first article, on how the Maccabi Tel Aviv fan furore lays bare the pretence at the heart of British politics. Feel free to subscribe, I'm going to try write at least 2 articles a month.

In awe of the levels of hating, an inspiration to us all
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

I’m just idly opining here, this isn’t meant to be coherent, but I’m sort of less shocked about this sort of punitive punishment happening at a public/private school as opposed to state schools
One of the really important things to understand about the UK is that we hate our own kids. We resent them for still being young when we are old, and we want to punish them for it.
Imagine having to sit in prison-like environs for two full days cus your boss didn’t like your hair.

The normalisation of this kind of stuff in our schooling system really should be understood as a national scandal

We strip-mined the future, the rich tearing the whole planet apart, the middle class getting bought off with a house. Now the future is the present and the kids who have to grow up in the ruins are asking: where's my future? And the answer is "fuck you, why are you trying to take my house?"
Yes and the punitive turn in education (silent corridors, isolation booths, 3 strikes systems etc) is a product of the fact society has nothing to offer the young.

There’s literally no carrot so it’s stick all the way down.
