Math teacher trying to expand into Common Core Explainers.
Way too many times, and way too early to understand all of the wild innuendo.

@jonathanhaidt.bsky.social Heard you on StarTalk (finally). We moved to the UK and our kids are going to a “public school” (a private school that takes public funding, and has public accountability), where phones are banned in the day (under threat of detention). Interesting culture change.

You’ve been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who’s coming to save you?

Oooh, look what I found. Any chance this is where you got it from, @hankgreen.bsky.social ?

In September, you were chatting with Nataliya Kosmyna about school and learning.
I’ve been working with teaching math with Peter Liljedahl’s “Building Thinking Classrooms” model, which pushes students to truly have space to think.
I did a series on it this Fall.
Building Thinking Classrooms | Teaching Practices for Enhancing Learning Mathematics
Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics helps teachers implement 14 optimal practices for thinking that create an ideal setting for deep mathematics learning to occur.

The President of the United States just called for Democratic members of Congress to be executed. "HANG THEM", he posted.

If you're a person of influence in this country and you haven't picked a side, maybe now would be the time to pick a fucking side.

@sandfallgames.bsky.social Okay, but WHO IS NOAH???
Every character starts with a weapon with their name embedded in it… Was Gustave’s original name Noah, and this was kept as an homage?

“And why should there be politics writers at a teen magazine?”
Offering alternative perspectives IS the threat to conservatives. This is why they keep trying to destroy education (turning it into minimalistic job training) and turning the conversation into a monoculture.
It will fail spectacularly.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

The simplest Razor we could use is: “We lack enough information”, specifically to determine which conclusion requires the fewest assumptions, and thus fits Occam’s Razor.

@guitarmoog.bsky.social “You are here” at the “Sun” marker (coordinate origin point). Looking all around, there is *some* light and cloudy nebulae toward the outer rim, but the highest density is toward the galactic center. Looking “up” from the galactic plane, there is a far smaller density.

@daraobriain.bsky.social Listening to the Curious Cases on music, and the part when Mark mentions entrainment, I suddenly remembered that there was a New Hampshire rock band called Entrain.
“Dancing in the Light” was a popular song back in the ‘90s.

I get you, @chucknicecomic.bsky.social . 15 July, you said that Zoom meetings were kind of “the same place,” and Neil balked.
You and your meeting participants create a *virtual* space in which to meet, or create a virtual bridge between your disparate spatial coordinates.
10/10 on that one.

I’m going to keep shouting this from the rooftops, but everyone needs to read Alien Clay by Adrian Tchaikovsky, like, yesterday.
It’s all about the organization we need to start ASAP.

I still can't figure out why my right-wing private high school assigned this novel. It began my long walk to the Left.
The legions could not stop them. Slaughter & terror did not stop them. How can you frighten a man whose hunger is not only in his own cramped stomach but in the wretched belles of his children? You can't scare him―he has known a fear beyond every other.

Loving the podcast so far, Wil!
Great choices, as well.
Might I recommend alongside “Proof by Induction,” Ted Chiang’s “Division by Zero,” with associated content warnings.

Our sci-fi book club has been reading some good stuff lately. Looking forward to more author recommendations from Season 2!
It's me, hi, I'm self-promoting, it's me.
I noticed yesterday that there are accounts I follow here, which I just miss because of the Timeline view (no complaints).

So, I'm trying something new with this week's Storytime, and I'm going to promote the everlivingshit out of it until even I am tired of seeing it, for maximum visibility.

If you inherited a movie theater, what's your first double feature?

I did this once, in my home. Most people hadn’t seen the first, and about a third had seen the second.
