You’re not violating a reading rule if you opt not to finish a book that's not resonating with you. Life is finite and we thus have a finite number of books to read. Reading shouldn’t be a chore. You needn’t feel guilty for ensuring that your time reading is spent reading things that you love.

You're not "late to the party" when you enjoy an old book for the first time. Books don't have an RSVP deadline. The party started long ago, and guests show up when they're meant to.

I have been thinking a lot (too much) about what it means to build a body of work. Unsurprisingly, Thomas Kinsella is way ahead in his understanding, describing his work as “a totality that is happening, with the individual poem a contribution to something accumulating."

56 when I was first published. This is true.
It’s never too late – I was 44 when my debut poetry collection was published – I’d been writing poems forever. I’ve published 8, 9th on the way. And my debut novel, linked with my poems. Earth is rejuvenated by spring, creativity keeps you young. Don’t give up, just keep renewing yourself & your art
