Literally every piece of subtext and context in this movie tells you why he actually was wrong.
He wasn’t wrong you know. The Jedi know next to nothing about the Dark Side or it’s practicioners, and that ignorance created an institutional fear of the unknown which resulted in disasters like the release of the Drengir during the High Republic, and ultimately, the fall of the Jedi Order itself.
