Mainichi Shimbun reports that Japan's convenience stores are adamantly against the country's new wave of restrictions on immigrants. 7-Eleven, Lawson, & Family Mart employed 110K foreign workers in 2025 & view their contributions as "essential" to operations.

As we've written before, the majority of these workers are international students. Under the terms of their visas, they're permitted to work 28 hours a week. Many work at the nation's combinis to earn money while sharpening their Japanese skills.

Blocking immigration when you have an aging population is a stupidnidea anyway, and foreign students are essentially a form of exportation as foreign money comes into the country to purchase education. Any smart country should want MORE students.
