These AI comics just get browner and browner, don't they?

This one wasn't, unless it also made a bunch of pretty pictures to distract you.

It wasn't "acidwarp" - that one just made coloured patterns. This had a whole bunch of little guys on a background.

Elder millennial nerd hivemind question: do you remember that vogue in the days of MS-DOS and Win3.1 for standalone screensavers? There was one that kept getting put on the computers in my school's computer lab called "acid.exe". It played a long animation with lots of sprites. Anyone remember it?

I love me some presets! The reason I like modular (or at least virtual modular) is that I can't play keys like, at all, so the ability to sketch out an idea (a chord sequence f'rexample) and see how the machines interact with it fits my brain very nicely.

I feel like social media has globalised conspiracism, so if you want to appeal to cookers for cheap heat you're going to tend to follow the US more than you would have say, 10 years ago.

Watching the new VR system's descent is just fascinating, and very much a group project. Yesterday it transcribed "Yours sincerely" as "six-inch screwdriver".

Scream us a song, you're the Piano Man
A song from the darkness beneath
With your piano wire hair and your soul-chilling stare
And your eighty-eight black and white teeth

This is what I was recording out, by the way...
(Well, one of two tracks I had that needed arranging and recording)

If nerds wonder, I'm using the ReaRoute ASIO plug-in to make the out from VCVRack show up as a sound source in Reaper, which is running in another window. It's janky (I need to restart Reaper after I set it up to make it go) but it means I can master after the fact.

One of the things I kinda like about working in VCVRack is that you can't render a tune out. You need to rig some way of recording it and then let the patch play itself - so you get this moment of just chilling and listening to the thing unfold....

When I got knocked off mine, the lady who did it very kindly paid for the repairs but my wheels and and forks were both significantly bent despite the collision happening at pretty low speed.

Thing that we didn't discuss, but occurred to me on listening back to this: this movie about misogyny predates Gamergate by 1 year, and Trump's first term by 3. Given the state of the misogynosphere at the time of its creation, it looks kinda prescient in retrospect....

On tonight's pod I talk to the wonderful @rossthesedays.bsky.social about Denis Villeneuve's 2013 movie "Enemy". This is a really good one, yo! We get deep into it because this film is a Rich Text and there is a LOT to say.
Listen here: bit.ly/res_rec-83-e..., older eps at mpr.nz/show/reserved.
An image of Jake Gyllenhaal from the DVD box of the movie "Enemy" (2103) which shows a cityscape dominated by an enormous spider growing from the back of his head. Over this is superimposed text which reads "Reserved Recommendations #83: "Enemy" (2013) with Ross Palethorpe"
