2/🚢The intrepid duo have safely joined our partner @csiccat.bsky.social al aboard the Oceanographic Research Vessel (BIO) Hespérides over the weekend.

They’re now preparing for the next leg of their trip: the transit to the Juan Carlos I Base in Antarctica.

Since 2012, ONC + Cambridge Bay community have been monitoring life under the Arctic ice through a cabled observatory deployed 8 m below sea surface on Victoria Island, #Nunavut—within #Inuit territory.

1/🫨 ONC’s land+seafloor seismic network successfully detected an #earthquake 60km southwest of Kyuquot, #BritishColumbia on Dec 9 & notified critical infrastructure subscribers.

The earthquake occurred around 8:44 pm PST.

Tsunami waves take about 12 hours to travel from #Japan across the #Pacific to the #BC coast.

These waves are expected to pose a limited threat to the region, and ONC’s NEPTUNE bottom pressure recorder sensors should detect the first small waves around 6pm.
