They are active in NYC. I haven't seen any specific harlem stories, but ICE keeps snatching lawfully present asylum seekers while they are attend mandatory asylum hearings.

This is a fundamental failure of the mainstream to stand against racism and to educate the public on how our economy actually works. I don't think the majority of people would be in favor of deporting undocumented aliens if they confronted how critical they are to middle class quality of life.

I think Cuomo's policy position here is pretty self serving. Bail on the current plan so he can fully own the new solution. Mamdani to his credit wants to lean into the planning/capital work done thus far. Whose plan is better/more responsible management... (rhetorical)

Mamdani protested new jails. Now he’s committing to building them.

Managing Rikers Island — and moving to close it once and for all — will be one of the thorniest issues for New York City’s next mayor.

Andrew Cuomo says he would as mayor seek to keep Rikers Island open and "rebuild it the right way" so that the jail complex becomes "humane" and "efficient."

This would require the City Council to undo its 2019 law mandating that Rikers be replaced with borough-based jails.
