And also it's 5 in the morning and I can't sleep lol

Oh! I also should have mentioned that branches of radical feminists were also known to be very anti-porn and anti-sex work, which is why you might see mentions of SWERFs alongside TERFs

I probably should have said this up front but I'm not like an academic on this sort of thing, I just recently sat down to research and figure out the core of radical feminism beyond "transphobic feminist" it tends to be shorthand for, so I have a lot of interest in the topic.

There are probably a bunch of reasons some gender conservatives are called radfems, but one is if they are feminists but have gender essentialism viewpoints like "men bad, women good," as in "testosterone turns you violent," "only men perpetuate the patriarchy and violence against women" etc

why it's a flawed theory. An older form of feminism that did good work, but that we have grown past, just as one day we'll grow past our current feminist movements.

#1 is something modern feminism now accepts as true, thanks to the work radical feminists in the 60s and 70s did
#2 is the main issue with it and why it was criticized for racism and classism, how branches of it turned loudly transphobic at its core and/or lesbian separatists, and

Quick explanation of the highlights, not full details:
From my research, the core beliefs of radical feminism that separate it from other forms of femnism are
1. Sexism is an institutional/societal problem, not just something one person does to another
2. Sexism is the root of all oppression.

Cis men-the best thing you can do to dismantle the patriarchy is to support marginalized men and masculinity. In addition to supporting women/femininity. It is vitally important to do these things in tangent. THAT is what breaks the patriarchy.

and I would love to just, like, be wrong about this

but I see it hurting trans men so often

who feel villainized and unwelcome in trans spaces because of this rhetoric that paints them as dangerous

who feel they can't defend themselves without being painted as transmisogynist

queerness is so varied, and so case by case, that you can't make such sweeping analysis that just flatly paints nbs and trans men as being an oppressor class towards trans women, that's not how it works at all

Like dawg, your whole purpose was for a safe space for LGBT people especially trans people. Yet, these guidelines would even potentially block discussions of diy hrt. Its so vague. Does discussing how to arm others count as "how to procure dangerous weapons"?

it matters a lot to me because the "youre not really trans if you don't go all the way", the entire question of "am i girl enough tho???", is what KEPT ME from transitioning myself because i didn't think i needed it that bad. it kept me in the closet for decades. i can never get that time back.

20 years ago the truscum were like "if you haven't gone through all the surgery and jumped through the existing system then youre Not Really Trans, youre just a weirdo" and now the New Truscum are like "if you haven't DIYed hormones from Vanautu you're not really trans and just ✨🌈VaLiD✨😘"

Yeah! Yeah! Like holy shit, bodily autonomy and self determination are fucking vital

but there are some who actually do say shit like not looking the part is **harmful** to those who do

Which is literally "I am not like those freaks"
Hatred towards gendernonconformity as a concept.

Fuuuuuuuuuuck
