Less cars on the quays after they introduced the bus gate, but that doesn't stop taxi and bus drivers from trying to kill you.

Another brutal cycle along the quays this morning - nearly pushed off the road by 5 taxi drivers and 3 bus drivers.

Dublin City Council can say what they want, but cycling in Dublin is getting more dangerous by the day.

If you wonder why we are failing to reduce our transport emissions and why we have a dysfunctional car-centric transport system. This is why. This is who are invited to aa Oireachtas committee to discuss transport and climate targets...

The mind boggles.

As is, with his continued push to not only lift the Dublin Airport passenger cap but also to significantly increase numbers, Minister O'Brien seems more like a minister for worsening climate change than one responsible for climate action and a sustainable transport system.

Brilliant letter below!

This is so disheartening. Getting rid of single-use cups is such a small, obvious step compared to the massive changes we’ll need to make.

If we can’t even do this, what hope do we have for the future?

🌍 Will 2026 finally be the year the Irish government turns the tide for nature and climate?

I've teamed up with the brilliant @aislinnn.bsky.social on how the Budget 2026 not only could, but should be the landmark turning point for Ireland taking ownership of climate and nature action.

An important perspective from @ciarancannon.bsky.social!

The contrast between active transport and car infrastructure becomes even starker once you factor in the broader financial and health costs of cars, whether it's inactivity, air pollution, or noise pollution (to name but a few negatives...).
Opinion: Those outraged by a €100k bike shed should look at the annual cost of renting out car park spaces
We have completely normalised investment in congestion, pollution and the continuation of car-first planning, writes Ciarán Cannon.

This is an utterly appalling statement for a government representative in a democratic republic to make. It’s the sort of stuff you’d expect from a dictatorship. “Regrettable” - I can’t think of a more apt word than “evil” to describe that statement.

The response from the Minister's representative at yesterday's meeting in Leinster House was shocking.

It's very clear that this government is not taking road safety seriously and people will die as a result.

Jason Cullen from the Dublin Commuter Coalition said a response from a staff member from the Junior Transport Minister, Sean Canney's office, during that presentation, was alarming.

"The clear indication that we got from the Minister's staff member there, was that it would be at least 18 months before we see any form of instruction to local county councils.

'When I pointed out to him that within that time 20 to 30 cyclists will probably have been killed on our roads due to the current trends that we're seeing, the response from him was that it is 'regrettable' that that will happen.

"It really took my breath away."

Another sub-par active travel project from DCC: Fitzwilliam Quay to Londonbridge Rd along the Dodder.

It’s 500 m of narrow two-way cycle lane with a strange, dangerous junction at the end and several other issues.

Perhaps the biggest concern? It’s expected to take 6–9 months to finish... 🐌

Nobody is suggesting closing off the entire city to cars. Yes, more frequent and extensive car free days must be accompanied by better public transport, but at some point we must challenge the idea that people driving to places are more important than people enjoying their streets safely.

This is a shocking indictment of public policy.

The NTA’s 2024 Travel Survey is out.

Car use is rising. Active and public transport are stagnant.

The consequences aren’t future risks — they’re here, for our health and the planet.

And make no mistake: this isn’t policy failure. It’s policy intent, locally and nationally.

This has enormous implications for human health.

Our health and wellbeing as humans is intrinsically linked to that of the planet and the natural world.

Kevin, I’ve spent countless hours, on a completely voluntary basis (btw), working to bring about real change in healthcare and wider society.

Debate is welcome, but it helps to recognise when people are actually putting in the effort.

Careful here lads @kevinwbaker.bsky.social / @feljin.ie / @emmet.quiddity.ie / @cianginty.bsky.social … This discourse is giving me Twitter / X vibes…

I apologise if I offended anyone here, but as I’ve said repeatedly, my piece was aimed the system, not volunteers.
