One step further, we have always negotiated for access to other nations resources. We now have a leader who is so bad at the art of the deal that he needs to resort to threatening military force for what we used to be able to negotiate in the back room. This guy sucks so bad at being a leader.
We went from a country that defended others from being invaded for their natural resources, to a country that is now threatening to invade others for their natural resources.

There will be an economic impact due to this also, and my question is how do we survive that?

This entire episode is the president and his administration saying the silent part out loud. You do not sue over soldiers not following illegal orders before they happen unless you plan on committing atrocities against the very people that elected you into Office.
The last president who declared that anything he does is legal was Richard M. Nixon. And we all know how things worked out for him . . .
