Valuing both is what makes a relationship stronger. You care for them and appreciate the things they do. Isn't that what love is?

Thinking back on a lot of my "friendships" throughout my life, I always wanted to be helpful to them in some way. I was the one who put the value on what I was providing for the friendship over who I was in the friendship. That backwards thinking is probably why I don't have many friends now.

"the work you do" can be anything, from physical work at a job or emotional support as a friend. For those times when I think "do they really see me as a friend?" this is something I can ask as a follow up to that question, narrow down my thoughts and see things from a new perspective.
