Badenoch is flunking in part because she wants to speak as if her party has been out of power more often than not in recent years, which was true of Thatcher in 1975 and is comically untrue of Badenoch in 2025.

It's even more striking when the original proposal is utterly detail-free, so everyone just backfills their 'how would THOSE people think THEY should study anthropology?' (they didn't) snobbery or their 'well, *I* studied theatre and made money' (the problem isn't theatre studies!).

Presumably Nigel Farage wants the UK to join Russia and Belarus as the only European countries outside the ECHR because he admires Putin so much. I guess Kemi Badenoch wants to leave only because Farage has already promised to do it.

At least one Conservative still upholds his party’s traditional respect for human rights and the rule of law. He even still believes in evidence-based arguments. This week he will be the exception, not the rule. www.thetimes.com/comment/colu...
Leaving the ECHR won’t fix illegal migration
Half-baked tales of rulings turning on chicken nuggets are no basis for cutting Britain adrift

They are not but ignoring concerns over immigration is then a gift to Reform and the tories

A party for millionaires and people who hate foreigners.

Their announcements are also completely undeliverable; they cannot even add up

Kemi Badenoch: “We will scrap stamp duty so that millionaires with massive houses will save loads of money”

I think there could still be a few more..not 20 MPs but a few..
omz2468.bsky.social
I also am convinced that we will see some Tory MP defections to the Lib Dems too

The Tories are finished

This disastrous speech is a free gift to Labour

Labour couldn't ask for more than this..

Can’t listen to it. She (among other right wing grifters) is living proof that paying for education is meaningless, unless you can marshall integrity, honesty, decency and compassion with your brain cells, you will fail.

"15 years ago, Polish workers came here to find opportunity. Now Poland is growing twice as fast as we are," says Kemi Badenoch.

Any ideas what may have happened in the interim?

Trump wants to ban people talking about the climate crisis... that’s censorship - where’s the free speech in that - for all the MAGA guff that there’s no free speech in the UK - massive hypocrites.

Badneoch's speech reminds me of the speech given by IDS just before he was removed as Tory Leader over 22 years ago..

Its disastrous, lazy and obviously not much thought into it

'We will reverse the family farm tax'

So you want to reverse free breakfast clubs? Take that as a yes

Tories lying?

Of course they do

Chris Philp: "Now, what I've got to tell you now will shock you. There is a so-called Anti Racism Commitment Plan that literally says: policing should not be colour-blind."

Only, it literally does not. It just explains the difference between equality and equity. ~AA
Anti-racism and racial equity
Our commitment to anti-racism means

Taking a stand against racism in all its forms
Proactively identifying, understanding and tackling racial inequalities in policing
Reforming policies and practices that lead to people from different ethnic groups being over-policed, under-protected or marginalised
Working with partners to tackle the racial inequalities that exist in wider society and which are reproduced and sometimes exacerbated by policing
Our commitment to racial equity means

Producing equality of policing outcomes for people from different ethnic groups by responding to individuals and communities according to their specific needs, circumstances and experiences, with understanding that these will be racialised and with the aim of reducing harm.
It does not mean treating everyone ‘the same’ or being ‘colour blind’ (racial equality).

Total disingenuous shit. He knows how the legal system works in England and he also knows this is simply populist bollocks. Ask him to point to judgements as evidence and there will be silence.

Jenrick delivers one of the most asinine speeches I have ever heard. He even brought along a prop, to explain how a judge becomes impartial setting aside personal views, then went on to attack judges for having views. His solution? Abolish tribunals. And who will adjudicate cases? Pfft. Details. ~AA

Considering how historically literate and sensitive to echoes of speeches of the past our media has shown itself to be, when it comes to every word uttered by a progressive, I find the lack of reaction to Jenrick ending his speech with "let us build this new order" quite puzzling. ~AA
bestforbritain.org
I suspect when Jenrick imagined saying the final words "let's build this new order, let's take our country back," his voice BOOMED and the roar of the crowd was DEAFENING. In the event, his voice cracked and was met with the politeness of a local baking contest won by "a not-bad lemon drizzle". ~AA

Michael Heseltine tells @europeanmovement.co.uk event that the Farage's Reform and European populist far right parties are “equivalents to the fascists of the thirties” and adds: ”We have to deal with President Trump for the next 3 years. We don't need his mouthpiece anywhere near No.10.” ~AA 🔥

Robert Peston
@Peston
Heseltine has just addressed a packed meeting of the European Movement at Tory conference. He does not show the restraint of most party leaders in his critique of Farage and Reform: “right wing equivalents to the fascists of the thirties are back on the march: Le Pen in France, AfD in Germany, Fdl in Italy, Vox in Spain and conspicuously Reform in this country. Much of President Trump's language in America coincides with words here in Europe. The immigrant has replaced the Jew as the problem which needs a solution although recent events here have cast a dark shadow…We must make clear that we will never have any part in the populist extremism of Nigel Farage. We have to deal with President Trump for the next 3 years. we don't need his mouthpiece anywhere near Number 10.”

How did Michael Foot do in the subsequent GE ?

I think this will probably end up with a lab, lib dem, green coalition at the next ge. Labour will rally a bit in the election, in the face of Reform possibly winning and Reform have a very shallow support base compared to labour, so will only gain up to 80 or 100 seats max.

He is a fantasist, a hysteric and a conspiracy theorist. The coverage of him really does deserve this tone and these labels rather than the mock seriousness he enjoys.

They need to, for the sake of the country.

Not for or against any political party.

He is right

Again, I may disagree with him politically but when he narrowly lost the WM mayoral contest, he was so dignified

Thats the politics I want

How can the likes of Simon Hoare, Caroline Nokes, Tom Tugendaht Jeremy Wright, Jeremy Hunt and even James Cleverly be in the same party as this Tommy Robinson with ozenpic in a suit extremist?

Forget politics, these people need to speak out
