Watched Misery tonight and damn, thoroughly enjoyed. So fucked up. I know I need to start reading Stephen King… this is my sign I suppose.

Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

Remember: Almost all of us are the descendants of immigrants who fled persecution, or were brought to America under duress, or sought better lives for themselves and their descendants.

Politicians who stoke fear and hatred over immigration want you to forget this.

Do not.

Okay, family time actually wasn’t so bad. Although we are very different, it was a good reminder that we grew up together and went through the same shit with our parents, so if anyone gets the childhood trauma, it’s them. So that was actually nice.

Getting ready to head to my sisters for our family get together for Christmas. Every year they make food I can’t eat (as a vegan) and then only the children get gifts (which I don’t have) and I just cannot wait to spend an afternoon with people who’ve never supported my career as an artist. 🫠

I am that person that gives everyone a book for Christmas. Do I think my family reads these books, not sure…. Do the young nephews think I’m strange for not giving them toys. Probably. Will some day they appreciate books? I sure hope so. I am trying to spread the joy of reading here. 🥹

incredible that the oldest scam in the book — “look away from the greed and poor leadership that destroy your chance to make a career, it is the [blanks] that stole your job!” — still works

The blockade of Venezuela is a disgusting echo of U.S. imperialism in Latin America. We were lied to about Iraq and WMDs, and an entire generation paid the price.

Here we are again.

We cannot let a wannabe dictator drag us into another forever war.

Trump orders oil tankers blockade in Venezuela, labels Maduro regime a "terrorist" group

Rob Reiner: I'm going to make a coming of age drama, a fantasy adventure story, a romantic comedy, a psychological horror and then a courtroom drama.

Us: Across your entire career?

Reiner: In a 6 year period.

Us: That sounds-

Reiner: -Each one will be arguably the best movie in that genre.

A reminder that before the Trump admin/RFK took over this year, the U.S. had officially declared measles eliminated in 2000.
The measles outbreak in South Carolina is “accelerating” with no end in sight following Thanksgiving and other large gatherings, state health officials say.

Layoffs have hit over 1.1M so far this year — the most since the pandemic.

Yet corporate profits continue to hit record highs, with corporations increasingly spending those earnings on stock buybacks to enrich execs and shareholders.

This is what a rigged economy looks like.
