"New York is a city of transit riders and pedestrians, and our streets should be oriented towards them. Whoever is the new mayor next year must operate with those principles, not just platitudes. Let’s let the Department of Transportation get to work." www.nydailynews.com/2025/10/05/m...
Mayor Adams must let DOT do its job
Ambitious initiatives to make our streets work better for all New Yorkers are being stymied by the very officials that tout them. Mayor Adams needs to get out of the Department of Transportation’s …

The majority of 253 traffic deaths last year in NYC took place at an intersection. Death after death, every intersection that DOT drags their feet to daylight more NYrs die.

Listening to @openplans.org webinar about Low Traffic Neighborhoods. Some inspiring stuff in here!

SDOT is developing a similar program called "Low Pollution Neighborhoods" but it's currently very undefined. It's a big opportunity if Seattle builds political will for transformational change.

Part of this work includes pushing for safety measures such as daylighting and curbside reform to make our streets safer & accessible for everyone. We urge @council.nyc.gov to pass Intro 1138 and continue to advance solutions that are proven to improve street safety.

We urge the Transportation Committee to reject Int. 1000 and pursue dedicated FHV solutions that don't cannibalize the vital and already limited space for commercial loading zones like relief stands. We need better allocation of our limited curb space, not harmful competition.
openplans.org
Our commercial drivers and for-hire drivers should NOT be fighting for curb space. Both are essential to our city and deserve dedicated space, and there's room for everyone at the curb. Int. 1000 forces critical workers to compete, creating chaos instead of solutions.
