EdD, Middle school humanities teacher, & QSA club advisor, & trying to make the chaos functional. This is obviously a personal account & my opinions are my own.
We need a budget that doesn’t just cut funding from kids, and instead helps us learn and have a great future.

You are here because you care about education and fully funding our schools. Thank you caring about schools and for listening to kids when we tell you what we need.

When the wealthy fail to pay taxes to fund communities they use public services from, they become dragons. THEY’RE JUST DRAGONS, SITTING ON THEIR BILLIONS OF GOLD COINS!!

We fund things that matters to us, and funding schools that kids go to is a way to show that children matter in this state.

The defense of the ultra rich not paying income tax is: “They earned it!” But at what point does it stop becoming earning? Is the work they’re doing 300 times more valuable than their employees?

We are one of the top 10 wealthiest states in this country, but we are one of the bottom 10 states for how much of that wealth we spend on schools.

We need to fully fund our schools.

I have teachers who weren’t even born the last time we passed a bond. (Pause) And that’s because it takes 60% of votes to pass a bond in this state.

We have to fund our schools and we have to get rid of the 60% requirement for bonds.

And for my district it’s even more important. Did you know, that even though the majority of people in our district support funding our schools, the last time we passed a bond was in the 1900s? (Pause as adults feel old) It was nearly 40 years ago. almost 3 times as long as I’ve been alive. 5/?

When our state doesn’t fully fund our schools, they take away all of the things I just mentioned. That’s why we can’t have a budget that is only cuts and shortchanges Washington students. (Pause)

And for my district it’s even more important.

My teachers understand exactly what is needed for me to learn, and that makes all the difference. Schools prepare kids like me for life — for college, careers, and to be good parents and friends. They give us the skills we need to succeed as adults and raise the next generation.

I’m here because I love public schools. My public school is why I can have a 504 plan, teachers who care about me, and classes I like. Schools are where kids like me learn, play with our friends, compete in sports, and develop important skills we will use all our lives. 2/?

Nobody is “becoming” anything. Trans women are women and trans men are men and that’s not going to change even if you take away their medical transition (because transitioning doesn’t make them trans, they are born trans). I’m so tired of people opining who don’t even have the vocab for the convo.

the birthright clause was not just written to wipe dred scott off of the books, it was written to repudiate the *idea* behind dred scott, you might say the larger *ideological project* of dred scott. and the whole of section 1 of the 14th amendment is a constitutional statement of political equality
