These freeway express routes (and articulated buses) are what I grew up with in Seattle, where both are in abundance. They continue to influence me and I find them a sort of comfort zone.

Good Monday morning from the reverse commute!

Today is the 51st anniversary of the Montlake Freeway Station, opened on Saturday, January 25, 1975.

It was the first of many “freeway flyer” stops that Metro would build throughout King County. The idea came from LA but Seattle embraced the concept, leading to today’s regional express bus network.

Bothell is on board for transit!

The two Stride BRT lines intersecting at UW Bothell will offer fast and frequent rides to Link stations in Bellevue, Lynnwood, and Shoreline.

Bothell will also be home to Sound Transit’s Bus Base North where the BRT service is operated from and fleet is maintained.

Opted for a 30-day pass this month instead of 10-trip cards. It breaks even at daily commuting + 2 trips. No keeping track of transfers and trips. Why not monthly cap? Prepaid pass = sunk cost = encourages more trips, no uncertainty in billing. Swipes faster than taps (MTD’s open loop is slow).

Locals will continue to call it Sea-Tac but visitors, especially non-English speakers, are more comfortable with airport codes or simply the city name. And as demonstrated with EVA Air, they might call it Sea instead of S-E-A anyway.
