Actual "pro-life":

"A low-income resident of San Francisco lives so much longer that it's equivalent to San Francisco curing cancer.

All these statistics come from a massive new project on life expectancy and inequality that was just published in the Journal of the American Medical Association."

Hmm. We were still fighting in Afghanistan during Trump’s first term. How come we didn’t win “easy” then? Why did Trump sign a one-sided agreement with the Taliban that allowed them to take over?

Trump: "The problem with Vietnam, we, you know, we stopped fighting to win. We would've won easy. We would've won Afghanistan easy. We would've won every war easy. But we got politically correct. 'Oh, let's take it easy.' We're not politically correct anymore, just so you understand."

The media trots out the "deplorable" comment from a decade ago to castigate the left. Once a week now Trump implies that the military should destroy democrats, and it is just how things are.

And the cult of SOF is a real problem given that, if we've seen one thing in Ukraine, it is that in a near-peer conflict, highly-trained, ultra-elite infantry cost a lot to form and field but get shredded by firepower at exactly the same rate, if not faster than, regular infantry.
sodrock.bsky.social
And this all starts right out of the academies or ROTC, are the top of the class going into arty or armor or logistics, no they’re all going to the 173rd airborne or ranger school, so you can see how the army has become so light infantry/SOF centric

This 'cult of the operator' appears, to me at least, wholly unsuited for modern warfare, in which victory depends primarily on the depth of your political will, the effectiveness of your logistics, the advancement of your technology and most of all the raw quantity of steel you can put in the air.

'Ultra-elite' units have been mostly aristocratic self-congratulatory nonsense for most of military history, but in this era *in particular* is it is *particularly* nonsense.

And yet it now seems to be the guiding ethos of our military our of masculine insecurity compensation.

US conservatives under Obama would sometimes wistfully post training footage of Russian special forces, like "look at what the real manly countries are doing instead of our woke baby military" and then all those VDV guys got annihilated within the first 3 days of the Ukraine invasion

Conservatives were saying that as Obama was massively hyping up and using American SOF! After the Captain Phillips rescue it was widely reported that Obama got really enamored with using SOF.

genuinely impossible to overstate what the secret police are doing. It is state hooliganism. It is gangsterism as policy. It is the jouissance of the original klan nightriders that followed the civil war. they terrorize minority communities while intentionally paralyzing local governments.

And they’re hiring. Every reel of terror that is released—every video of slamming a woman on concrete, blowing the doors off of the house of a screaming family—is an advertisement to get in on the terror while it’s good.

ICE has held him under 24/7 guard at a hospital, registering him under a pseudonym, for *37 days* without telling him why.

Jesus Christ. DHS has held this guy in the hospital handcuffed to a bed and under constant guard for over a MONTH without ANY warrant or even ANY steps taken towards putting him into the removal system!
Petitioner’s counsel has requested documentation of a judicial warrant for his arrest, any charging documents, or other authority supporting his detention. See Santiago Decl. ¶¶ 18–20. ICE has provided no response. Id. To date, ICE has not placed Petitioner in removal proceedings, charged him with violating immigration law, set bond, issued a Notice to Appear, or otherwise processed him. See Pet. ¶¶ 16, 49. In Respondent’s Opposition brief, the government states “ICE intends to take further action consistent with the laws prescribed under the Immigration and Nationality Act (“INA”) once Petitioner is released from medical care and it can conduct the examination as [prescribed] in 8 C.F.R § 287.3.” Opp. at 4. Neither Petitioner nor Respondents have provided the Court with information about Petitioner’s citizenship, whether he has violated any law or regulation, or any information that would suggest that Petitioner is a flight risk.

The interaction illustrates how federal law enforcement officers do use aggressive tactics against protesters who yell and needle officers but don’t appear to present clear physical threats.

The ICE agents deploying these are people without necessary training, those who couldn’t cut it in police training or didn’t want to join the military.

They are in this to hurt people and play Call of Duty on our streets, deploying chemical weapons on our neighbors as if they’re pressing L1.

SOURCES: NYC CIVILIAN COMPLAINT REVIEW BOARD AND NYC OPEN DATA Figure 1. The San Francisco Police Department’s rising budget and personnel accompany increasingly
poor performance and worsening crime rates over the last decade, 2010-11 through 2020-2021

Police budget per resident
Up 7%

Police employees per resident
Up 12%

Reported crimes per resident
Up 19%

Police arrests per reported offense
Down 60%

Crimes solved (cleared) by police
Down 33%

The SFPD’s budget and staffing have risen both per city resident (Figure 1) and in absolute numbers (Table 1) amid ever-worsening performance.

The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) remains a liability to the city and a disturbing outlier among California police agencies. The department expends substantial resources while failing to hold itself accountable for vastly disproportionate arrests of Black people,1 plummeting crime-solving efficiency, and uniquely deficient data reporting. Compared to other big-city police agencies, the SFPD solves fewer crimes despite larger staffing per city resident and costs per area patrolled. The department also greatly over-arrests Black people, refuses to record the ethnicity of Latino arrestees, and flagrantly omits offense descriptions for a substantial share of arrests. The SFPD’s manifest failings harm San Franciscans and distort statewide crime information.
