📚 2025 Book Thread 📚

I have kept an annual book thread on the hell site since 2019 so gonna try it over here instead/alongside.

I am gonna keep using the library & try to read outside my comfort zone more regularly. ✌🏼

My favourite books of 2024.

So far, the worst bit of hosting Christmas is having to clean and tidy my house before they arrive.
My dining table is more of a storage surface than an eating surface and I *suspect* my mum is not planning on eating her Christmas dinner on a lap tray… 🤔

Yes, yes, I did place an emergency Dunnes grocery order for delivery tomorrow to save me the hassle of going to Cornelscourt. Fingers crossed for good expiry dates.

Decided to make a stash of cookie dough for the freezer to have over Christmas. My weighing scales broke, so had to go to Tesco to get a new one. Mid mix, my stand mixer broke so had to use the hand held mixer instead. 90 mins after I started… Merry Christmas.. 💆🏼

Anyone else watching Rugged Rugby Conquer or Die on Netflix? A South Korean rugby squid games of sorts. Its entirely bonkers with very salty, sarcastic captions of dramatic moments that is weirdly engaging.

I'd happily pay higher Local Property Tax if the money offset rates and other costs for enterprises of cultural value like bookshops, cinemas, heritage (non-franchise) cafes and youth clubs.

I think many homeowners would, but politicians seem to think we want tiny tax cuts.

My mum just told me what my siblings are getting for Christmas,
My sister asked for a lawnmower.
My brother asked for an airfryer.
I asked for a voucher to a Michelin star restaurant….

Peak. Notions.

The Mall of America and Four Corners continue to be on my list of places I would like to visit because of this book. Thats almost 25 years of thinking about it 🤣🤣🤣

Unfortunately, travelling to America seems like a terrible idea for the next 4 years.

First time in a long time there was no musicals, and by musicals I mean Hamilton, in my Spotify Wrapped.

I have read 6 of the 100 notable books of 2024 according to the NY times. Only one of them has made it onto my top reads (currently 15) out of 115. Spoiler alert: its Intermezzo.

Three Drag Race franchises airing at the same time is a lot of Queens to keep track of. And an Aussie in Canada and Americans in Down Under… 🤯

That unfollow Conor McGregor post has been shared so much which is great but I’ve noticed it’s mostly women doing the sharing. Exhausting to constantly scream and badger men for support on these things and then some can’t/won’t even share a post.

Gus McCarthy is having a great game. Prendergast has a great rugby brain - he sees things others dont which results in a few small miscalculations. And Hollie Davidson is a great ref - so impressed by her clear communication and calm demeanour.

Dream day.
I don't know who needs to hear this, but if all you accomplish this weekend is reading a riveting novel cover-to-cover whilst drinking multiple kettles of tea and consuming a scandalous amount of croissants, then you will have accomplished more than enough.

Book clubs are the best. Firstly, a guy in my book club recommended the most gorgeous book, Idlewild, which is about queer, theatre kids that write slash fiction set in a Quaker school on 9/11. But it is weirdly relatable! We talked about it last night & it was so lovely.

So, last week I did assisted pull ups for first time. I used 2 green bands, strongest available.

Turns out not all green bands are created equal. Stood up on bands, grabbed bar & tried a pull up. Queue subluxed shoulder & mild lat dorsi tear.

Thats what I get for going to gym on a Friday night.

I don’t think its the intent of the show, but #TheGone makes me very nostalgic for Aotearoa.
