Happy holidays to all my fellow runners. Our roads (yes, OUR roads) seem more hazardous than ever because of distracted and careless motorists incentivized by lax traffic law enforcement. But there is a joy in running nonetheless which I'm celebrating in this glass ornament hanging from my tree.

Just delivered: a bike jersey from Primal so bright you could see it from space. But not bright enough, I fear, for New Jersey motorists to see me while I'm out on my road bike. After all, they'd have to look up from their cell phones to notice.

Hours before it was set to air last night, CBS News executives pulled the segment, but Canada’s Global TV app received it prior to broadcast.

As the semester comes to an end with final exams, this old video from The Onion seems appropriate. For those unfamiliar with The Onion, it's satire. Or is it?

Nothing prepares a family for how to cope with a loved one who suffers from an addiction as described in this gift article in the New York Times. It quickly takes over a family's entire life and can lead to so much tragedy. I've seen it up close so my heart breaks for these families.

It just hurts to read this. I'll be giving final exams starting this week for the large classes in cavernous lecture halls I teach on a campus where anyone could simply walk in off the street. It often crosses my mind that I might find myself in this situation. As if teaching weren't hard enough.

New Jersey could do a lot more to promote sustainable transportation choices. Instead, there's a bill in the legislature that would do just the opposite of progress by essentially killing the low-speed e-bike alternative. Join me in calling on the governor and our representatives to oppose this.

This entire grift relies on convincing people that they don't know how to do the things they have always known how to do, and ironically, if it works, we will, in a very short amount of time, forget how to do all the things we have always known how to do.

Another nice thing we can't have in New Jersey.
This is a really important thing about speed cameras. They actually do change driver behavior and force people to slow down. They should be an important tool in creating safer streets *along with* design changes.
When cameras are installed, they issue many violations in the first month, followed by a steep decline in the second month. This suggests that the cameras effectively deter speeding by changing underlying driver behavior rather than relying on sustained revenue extraction.

Orgulho do meu Brasil hoje. Um país que quarenta anos atrás se livrou do regime militar hoje pode dizer que mandou militares golpistas para a prisão. Assim o Brasil dá um exemplo para o mundo inteiro: o lugar certo para golpista e autoritário é no presídio.
