the inconvenient zero gravity toilet from the beginning of the movie is foreshadowing, because by the end of 2001 our hero is rewarded by being sent to the nicest bathroom in the universe. kubrick has gone on to say this represents mankind's triumph over shitting out its collective doodoo ass
